Charlotte Girls Down SH; Boys Play Tues

The march for an unofficial State Title is on for the Charlotte Middle School basketball teams as they host the Class AA Sectionals. The Charlotte Lady Tigers bounced back from a weekend loss to Sycamore by besting the Spring Hill Lady Generals 34-24 at CMS on Monday afternoon. The win sends Charlotte to the Semi-Finals against Lewis County on Thursday night.

Before the Lady Tigers play on, however, the Tiger boys will look to make their charge in the Sectionals Tuesday afternoon, facing a top-seeded Lewisburg team that has been the talk of the south part of the state. They are beatable, as Dickson Middle has already shown, and as the Class A Sectional Champion William James Colonels proved, if you get hot in the final tournament, great things can happen.

Colonels Basketball State Champions!

The William James Colonels knocked off Ethridge 32-25 on Saturday night in Loretto to win the boys’ Class A Sectional Tournament Title. As the TMSAA doesn’t recognize state titles in any sport, the Middle Tennessee Sectional Championship is an unofficial state title for the purple and gold. The Colonels shocked an unbeaten team in the semi-finals to get in the title game, and rode their hot streak all the way to a championship.

Also in weekend action, the Lady Colonels lost 25-18 to Leoma to take 4th place in the Sectional. In the Class AA North Area Tournament, the Charlotte boys lost to Harpeth 43-32 to take 4th place; they face top seeded Lewisburg Tuesday at 4:30 in the Class AA Sectional Tournament at Charlotte Middle School. The Lady Tigers lost 31-22 to Sycamore in the Area Championship game Saturday; they will host Spring Hill tonight at 4:30pm in the Class AA Sectionals.

Tonight, the Dickson Middle School Dragons and Lady Dragons play Clarksville-New Providence at DMS at 5pm for homecoming, then will enter the Class AAA Area Tournament at Rossview Middle School in Clarksville later this week.

Weekend Outlook

It will be a busy weekend for north-end teams, as Charlotte will be in the area finals at Cheatham Middle, while William James will be in the sectionals at Loretto High in Loretto, TN.

The Charlotte girls will play Sycamore in the Area Championship Game in Ashland City, to determine a number one seed in the Class AA Sectional Tournament next week in Charlotte. The boys, who lost to Sycamore 39-22 on Thursday night, will play Harpeth in the consolation game at 5:15, with the girls’ game to follow.

The William James girls got picked off by an unbeaten team in the second round of Sectionals, and will face Leoma in the Class A Sectional consolation game at 2pm, while the William James Colonels play for the Sectional Title, and unofficial state title later that day.

On Monday night, the Dickson Middle Dragons and Lady Dragons host New Providence at 5pm, for their last home game and for Homecoming, then they will also head into postseason play.
