Dickson County posted a strong 2011 volleyball season, but a red-hot Wilson Central team ended things for the Lady Cougars in the region tournament. The powerful Lady Cougars ran into a brick wall in the Wilson Central squad; the Lady Wildcats swept Dickson County, then swept Portland to win the Region 5-AAA Title. Wilson Central moved on to the sectionals, while the Lady Cougars get to celebrate another impressive season that took them to the Region tournament.
After falling behind early, the fourth-seeded Dickson County High School Lady Cougars stormed back for a 5-1 victory over Northeast in the opener of the District 10-AAA soccer tournament Monday. The Lady Cougars got goals from five different players and settled down defensively to close out the Lady Eagles after giving up an early goal. Kat Andrews tied the match for DCHS and the Lady Cougars moved ahead to stay on a goal by Taite Hedrick. Payton Crider added a score before halftime for a 3-1 edge. Dickson County found the net twice in the second half on goals by Makenze Inman and Katie Kruse to wrap up the victory and advance to Tuesday’s 6 pm semifinal at Henry County. The Lady Patriots eliminated Northwest Monday. The other semifinal has Clarksville taking on Rossview Tuesday. Clarksville pounded Kenwood 7-1 Monday while Rossview blanked West Creek 6-0. Creek Wood’s Lady Red Hawks got goals from Kaitlin Siddall and Liz Goggans to top Macon County 2-1 in the District 10-A/AA tournament opener. Creek Wood advances to face Harpeth at 6:30 tonight.
Regional volleyball tournaments are tonight with both Dickson County and Creek Wood high schools playing for a shot at the title. Creek Wood faces Page at 5:30 in one semifinal with host Harpeth taking on Spring Hill in the opener at 4. The winners meet at 7:00 for the Region 6-AA championship. Dickson County will battle host Wilson Central in the 4:00 opener of the Region 5-AAA Tournament. Portland and Rossview follow in the other semifinal and the winners meet at 7. Both the runners up and champion advance to the sectional round on Thursday.
