The two remaining Dickson County individual wrestlers were in action Friday in day two of the double-elimination TSSAA State Championships in Franklin.
DCHS sophomore Beau Badon, in the 132 pound weight class, opened the day against Hayden Hamilton of Cleveland in the Round of 8. Hamilton got the upper hand, and handed Beau his first loss of the tournament with an 8-0 decision. Badon continues in the fourth round of the consolation bracket later tonight, facing Giovanti Palacio, a senior from Hixon. Palacio lost in the second round, and has won his last two matches including a fourth-minute pin in his last match Friday morning. Palacio continued his hot streak by edging out Beau with a 4-3 decision that ended the season for young Badon on Friday.
Cougar senior Ben Knox earned a solid win over Blackman’s Tyler Sells in the third round Friday morning, pinning Sells just before the three minute mark. Knox continues tonight in the consolation bracket, facing Antonio Walton, a Tyner junior. Walton won his first two matches before taking a close loss in the field of eight, dropping him to a win-or-go-home brawl with Knox. Ben proceeded to take a 7-6 decision over the younger Walton to advance.
Knox advanced to the consolation semis by besting his next opponent, Nate Crowley of Pigeon Forge, 3-1. tp wrap up day two of the tournament. Knox faces two-time state medal winner Turbo Smith of Soddy Daisy Saturday–the same wrestler that sent Ben to the loser’s bracket on Thursday. If Knox avenges the loss and moves on, he will be one win away from a third place finish; otherwise, he will wrestle Saturday for fifth place.
